Shadab Khan made Bold Statements about Virat Kohli and Shaheen Afridi ahead of Asia Cup

Shadab Khan is Pakistan’s leg-spin all-rounder and vice-captain of the team. Shadab made Bold Statements about Virat Kohli and Shaheen Afridi’s absence ahead of Asia Cup. He wants Kohli to get a century, but not against Pakistan.

He interacted with the media ahead of the mega clash between Pakistan and India.

Greatest Rivalry

When India and Pakistan face off in the opening match of Group A of the Asia Cup on Sunday in Dubai, the “greatest rivalry” in cricket will resume.

This will also be the first encounter between the two teams since their matchup in the Men’s T20 World Cup last year in the United Arab Emirates, where Pakistan defeated India with a commanding ten-wicket victory, their first in Men’s World Cups.

What is Shadab thinking about the Rivalry?

“Like any competition, Sunday’s match is important as it will set the tone for the remaining matches. But we are not overthinking, a tactic that worked for all of us last year.”

“The dressing room is calm and relaxed, but we aren’t complacent. We are trying to keep things simple and straight, and our focus is one game at a time.”

Virat Kohli Form

Veteran Indian batsman Virat Kohli has been experiencing a slump with the bat for a while. His most recent international ton came in 2019, and his position on the national team is now also in doubt.

Since the start of the 2022 Indian Premier League earlier this year, Kohli had trouble with the bat. In 22 innings (both IPL and international) since the league’s beginning, he has only recorded one 50+ score.

Kohli had not scored more than 20 runs in any of his six innings across all formats during the England tour. He was granted a vacation from cricket after a poor performance on the trip, missing the series against the West Indies and Zimbabwe.

Shadab Khan Epic Remarks about Virat Kohli

Shadab Khan’s epic reply when asked if Virat Kohli “doesn’t instill fear anymore”. There is a section of fans and experts who believe that Kohli doesn’t instill fear in the minds of bowlers anymore.

“They (the former cricketers) don’t play anymore, that’s why they think that he doesn’t instil fear. He is a legend of the game, he has performed quite a lot.

Whenever he comes, you are a bit scared because he is a great player. We don’t want him to play a long innings against us,”Shadab said.

“I pray that he returns to how he was. He is performing well even now, but the standards that he has set make it feel as if he is out of form. I wish that he scores a century; not against us, but some team else in this tournament,” Shadab remarked.

He also said, “I haven’t noticed any change in his game, and I want him to play long innings in the tournament.”

Shadab’s goal for the Asia Cup 2022

Shadab Khan has been an essential part of Pakistan’s white ball cricket team. In addition to being a great fielder, he is a genuine wicket-taker with his googly in the shortest format. He can also smash big knocks with the bat.

Shadab stated that his goal for the Asia Cup 2022 is to win the Player of the Tournament award. He is meanwhile focusing on the more important goal of helping Pakistan win its third Asia Cup.

“I want to be the player in the Asia Cup. I know it is easier said than done when there are so many world-class competitors, but where there is a will, there is a way. Also committed to delivering my best possible efforts and I am confident I will be rewarded with success and achievements.

“It will be great if I can translate my dreams of lifting the player of the tournament trophy, but the much bigger and ultimate objective is to win the glittering trophy for Pakistan, rest is secondary.”

Shadab Remarks about Shaheen’s Exclusion

Shadab also expressed his confidence in Pakistan’s capacity to fill the void left by the absence of top left-arm bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi, who is unable to compete due to a right knee injury.

“Shaheen Shah Afridi’s absence is a blow as he is our main strike bowler. But the beauty of cricket is that it’s not an individual but a team game.”

“We have many match-winning bowlers in our team and I have confidence in Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah, Shahnawaz Dahani, and others, who will surely step up and will succeed in filling the big boots of Shaheen.”

Afridi will miss the Asia Cup as well as the home series against England but is expected to return to competitive cricket in October with the New Zealand T20I tri-series, which will be followed by the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Australia 2022.

During the first Test match against Sri Lanka in Galle last month, Shaheen injured the ligaments in his right knee while fielding.

Shaheen will stay with the Pakistani team until his recovery is complete. PCB announced Mohammad Hasnain as Shaheen’s replacement for the Asia Cup.
