Gaikwad scored 220 not out off 159 balls with ten fours and 16 sixes. And the unlucky Shiva scored 0 for 88 in nine overs. It was pretty much a one-man show from Gaekwad, with the rest of the Maharashtra batsmen scoring 96 off 142 balls.
In Ahmedabad on Monday, left-arm spinner Shiva Singh worked from around the wicket at the start of the over. The first ball, a low full toss, was smacked over wide long-on. The other was in an arc, and hit the ground straight. The third one was short, and Gaekwad swung it over the rope at deep square leg. Shiva changed his line for the fourth ball and went outside the off-stump, but the length was just right for Gaekwad to hit over long-on. The fifth went in almost the same direction, and was a no-ball to boot, and the free hit went to long-on. It was the sixth six in five legal overs, and with it Gaikwad completed his double century. Last ball, Shiva finally going over the wicket, again in an arc at middle stump, and again to deep midwicket.
