Pakistan’s New Chief Selector – Haroon Rashid

PCB chairman Najam Sethi named former Pakistan batsman Haroon Rashid as the chief selector, adding that the rest of the selection panel will be named later.

Rashid played 23 Tests and 12 ODIs for Pakistan between 1977 and 1983 and served as the PCB’s Director of Cricket Operations and Pakistan Team Manager in addition to his previous role as a selector. On December 22 last year, Rashid was appointed to the 14-member Cricket Management Committee to run the PCB but will now step down from the post.

Sethi said that Haroon has now resigned from the management committee as we do not want a conflict of interest as he is now the chief selector.

The Cricket Management Committee had appointed Afridi as the interim chief selector on 24 December and Sethi wanted him to hold the position for a longer period. Afridi, however, was not keen, citing his busy schedule with his foundation and charity work.

The Pakistan men’s team’s next series is a three-match T20I against Afghanistan in March.
