Latest Match Report – Sindh vs North Final 2022/23

Sindh 230 for 7 (Mahmood 56*, Alam 38*, Musa 2-53, Mabusar 2-59) Vs. North

The time comes, the man comes – with some help. Fawad Alam has not had a bad season, certainly not so poor that he has been dropped from the Pakistan Test team. But it hasn’t been, perhaps, as priceless as last season. The average is masking a streak of 57 starts that he hasn’t earned. But on the first day of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy final at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, there he was doing what Fawad Alam has been doing all his career: saving his team.
After being put into bat, Alam reached a relatively steady 112 for 3 with Sindh. But in the afternoon session, they would slump to 151 for 7 against Northern, before an unbeaten stand of 79 between Alam and Asif Mahmood cost Sindh a bit. 230 runs safe for 7 wickets when the end was reached nine overs early due to dim light. Mahmood was the true hero, scoring an unbeaten 56 off 89 balls near his maiden first-class fifty. But Alam’s presence and subsequent partnership was exactly the calm that Sindh needed.
At the center of Sindh’s mini-downfall was Mubaser Khan, the young off-spinning all-rounder who, in one way or another, has been the player of the season. He is the second highest wicket-taker in the tournament this season and has scored over 500 runs in the season at an average of over 50. He picked up two wickets in this morning’s session on the back of two early breakthroughs provided by Mohammad Musa Khan.

Both sides are missing key players, who have been called up to Pakistan’s Test squad as they prepare for the series with England. Both the regular captains Northern’s Nouman Ali and Sindh’s Saud Shakeel are currently with Pakistan while Sarfaraz Ahmed, leggie Zahid Mehmood and this season’s breakthrough Sindh’s Abrar Ahmed are also with the Pakistan squad.
