Hayne represented the youth teams of Queensland and Australia, including the 2012 Under-19 World Cup, before pursuing a career in Great Britain which has seen him represent the England Lions.
He will train with the Heat throughout the BBL season and then fill one of the vacancies in early January when Sam Billings and Colin Munro leave for other leagues.
“It’s been a few years since I’ve been back in Queensland, so I’ve enjoyed revisiting a lot of the places I remember growing up,” he said. “It’s been great catching up with a lot of them. Guys I’ve played with in the Queensland teams and the Gold Coast Dolphins since I left here.”
“I’m really excited to be able to play in the BBL. It’s been a big goal of mine for a few years and it’s a huge thrill to be a part of things with Brisbane this summer.”
Wade Seccombe, the current Heat and Queensland coach, was in charge of the Queensland under-19 team that Hayne was a part of in 2011-12.
“Sam was a very talented young player and I know many of us at QC were sorry to see him go when he made the call to pursue his options in England,” he said. They said. “Having him back in the group will be a great fit. He has great playing experience, especially as a white-ball player who knows how to control the innings and make good decisions in the middle.”
